About Tropical Jam
A touch of unique island-style music has arrived in Hampton Roads with Tropical Jam Band. It all started in March 2008, when a couple of talented young musicians with a shared Hawaiian heritage sprang from a simple desire to hang out together, jam on their ukuleles and learn more about the music unique to the island tradition. Before long, the kids invited a handful of musically talented friends to join the fun and each week, as they say in Hawaii, the group just got “betta and betta.”
In 2009, Tropical Jam Band consisted of six members ranging in age from 12 – 16 years of age. The Tropical Jam crew consisted of: TJ (bass guitar), Patrick (ukulele), Isaiah (drums/percussion), Howie (keyboard), and our newest members, Paul (drums), Max (drums-backup) and Zach (acoustic guitar). Though the sound has a distinct island contemporary beat, they’re proud to call the Hampton Peninsula “home.” Catch some of their first practice sessions and current hits on YouTube.com: search: Tropical Jam Band.
Tropical Jam Band is ready to bring the island atmosphere to your party, indoor, or outdoor gathering! Their unique beat focuses on a performing style called “Jawaiian,” . Current song selections include “Surf” and “Tropical Hawaiian Day” by the Ka’au Crater Boys, “White Sandy Beach” by Braddah Iz Kamakawiwo ‘ole, Pearly Shells, “Kona Daze” by Kalapana, Hukiluau, and many more contemporary Hawaiian Island tunes.
In 2010, Tropical Jam began practicing for the 2010 Performance Season in early February. The year started off by adding two new female singers. Tropical Jam welcomed Shanelle and Eloni. In addition, the band added a new electric guitar player; a horn section which includes a trumpet and alto saxophone; and an additional ukulele player.
